Each year Bethel Lutheran School’s OPO sponsors their biggest fundraising event. The walk-a-thon and silent auction are held each October on the school campus. This year’s theme is We are the Future! The goal is $20,000 to help to support and expand our enrichment programs, as well as, stipends for each classroom to purchase additional items they need.
What is Bethel’s Walk-a-thon?
Bethel’s walk-a-thon is an annual event where students walk laps, earn prizes, and raise money for programs at our school. In the past, the money raised was used to fund new computers and iPads for the students onsite use, playground equipment, classroom items, and a new artificial turf lawn!
Families collect donations (pledges) from family and friends to support their participation in the walk-a-thon. Pledges are collected through a site called DoJiggy.com. Students create a donation page at http://bethel.dojiggy.com. By completing a profile page and emailing pledge requests from family and friends, a student is able to track how much they are raising for the event. When each student completes the registration process, their classroom is one step closer to having 100% participation in the event. Classes that reach this goal receive a special class party.
Families can also donate items or service to the silent auction. The silent auction happens during the walk-a-thon. Items like gift certificates, baskets, electronics, and more, are donated. Families bid on these items using bid sheets. When the table closes, the highest bidder wins!
One of Bethel’s many traditions is having t-shirts created by the students at the end of each year. One student’s artwork is chosen. Our winner this year is William from 4th Grade!
Another important part of our walk-a-thon is help from our families to decorate, lay out the course, mark lap cards, pass out prizes, and over all encouragement for our walkers! Below is the link to the sign up for parents wanting to help.
